Nazi Hauptkriegsverbrecher, Hauptkriegsverbrecherprozess Nuernberg

This is a very historic Extra-Blatt or Special Edition of the Nürnberger Nachrichten newspaper dated Tuesday 1 October 1946. It contains the sensational news about the sentences of the 22 high-ranking Nazis by the International War Crimes Tribunal in Nuremberg, which the paper refers to as “the Last Chapter of the National Socialist Tragedy.”

However, certain departments of the Nazi Political Corps, SS, SD and Gestapo had been assigned the status of criminal groups. Exceptions are included in the explanation. For example, members of the Reiter-SS (SS-Cavalry) were not to be considered criminals, but all others were due to their involvement in the Endlösung der Judenfrage.
It is interesting to note that the first issue of Nürnberger Nachrichten was published on 11 October 1945 after the founder was granted license number 3 for newspaper publication by the occupying power, the American Military Government in Bavaria. Nürnberger Nachrichten headquarters was located in the former NSDAP Gauhaus of Julius Streicher in downtown Nürnberg!

This rare original 1 October 1946 Extra-Blatt is in very fine condition as it was carefully laminated by a previous owner and is therefore very well preserved. We lightened our images for clarity and readability, but in fact the paper had aged to a typical light tan color prior to lamination. No tears, no tape, no writing.
guilty verdicts International Military Tribunal Nuremberg 1946
Twelve death sentences were announced: Hermann Göring, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Wilhelm Keitel, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Alfred Rosenberg, Hans Frank, Dr. Frick, Julius Streicher, Fritz Sauckel, Alfred Jodl, Arthur Seys-Inquart, and Martin Bormann.

Others like Albert Speer, Rudolf Hess, Baldur von Schirach, Admiarl Dönitz and Admiral Raeder for example, heard they received prison sentences instead of death by hanging.

There are articles with details of the schedule of sentencing day, the Soviet judges, announcements of the verdicts, the victim’s reactions, and “Case [Rudolf] Hess”.
There is also an interesting recap of the Military Tribunal’s explanation of which Nazi military and paramilitary organizations were considered criminal and which ones were not.

For example, the SA, the Nazi cabinet as well as the General Staff and High Command of the Wehrmacht were not considered criminal.
